United Rugby was originally established as a mens team in 1985 by Ra Puriri as a way for him to share his love of rugby with his sons and young men in the greater Utah County area. United was re-organized as a youth rugby program in 1991, by Colin, Mike and Hata Puriri. The program began with one side of players for the boys U-19 in 2002. Mike and Hata’s careers have moved them out of the Northern Utah area but they have continued their involvement with rugby in So. Utah and New Zealand. Colin continues as head coach of this nationally recognized program.
Since that time the program has expanded to include younger age groups. 2009 saw the establishment of a girls rugby team. In 2010 the club fielded 7th-8th grade, 9th-10th grade, and 11th-12 grade boys teams. In July of 2013 United fielded its first 7’s team.
In May of 2010 the U19 boys won the National Championship for the first time in club history. In May 2013, the U19 boys team won its second National title at the National Invitational Tournament held in Elkhart, Indiana.
United Girls won the Girls HS Club NIT Championship in 2017 and 2018.
United Rugby Club has produced players who have moved on to elite level of rugby play, with players on the USA Eagles, Utah Warriors, High School All-Americans, and several nationally recognized college rugby programs including, BYU, Lindenwood, University of Utah and UVU.
